A low carbohydrate diet is one in which you eat less than the RDA of 300 grams. There are several variations on this type of diet; some of the better-known ones are being Atkins, Zone and South Beach but there are many low carb diets out there.
Why do people go on a low carb diet? The most popular reason is to lose weight, but a low carb diet will also help to control your blood sugar levels, blood pressure and cholesterol. Diets come in all forms and one that many people rely on is the low glycemic index diet. The glycemic index ranks the effects that the carbohydrate in food has on the glucose levels in the blood. A food that is high on the glycemic index will cause your blood sugar to rise dramatically. However this effect is temporary and soon after eating you will start to feel full again.
