The glycemic index of fruit is typically very low, although some are in the medium and a couple in the high, most fruits are quite safe to eat if you are following a glycemic index diet.
Unlike a low carb diet, eating fruit is encouraged in a glycemic index diet. Adding some of the lower GI fruits can be a healthy way to help you lower the overall glycemic index of a meal. Plus fruits are loaded with antioxidant vitamins, minerals, enzymes and fiber that all help you stay healthy and disease free. Oh, and they taste good too!
Each of the values below is for an average serving, but the glycemic index value of fruit does not go up if you eat more. The glycemic index measures how high your blood sugar rises after you eat a certain food – it is the same no matter how much of the food you eat. Of course if you are trying to lose weight, you want to keep your overall calorie intake to less than your overall calorie expenditure so keep this in mind when eating this healthy fruit.
