It is important to remember that non diet sodas, juices and regular mixers have lots of carbs and these should be avoided. Also, those store bought pre mixed drinks should be avoided. If you are ordering out in a bar make sure you know exactly what the bartender is putting in your drink. If you prefer wine or beer for your low carb alcoholic drink, there are many low carb beers out on the market today. If you prefer wine, go for the white wine which has about 0.9 grams carbs per glass (3 ½ ounces) as opposed to the red which is twice as much. Your best bet for a low carb alcoholic drink is to avoid fancy drinks. Stay away from creamy drinks like white Russians and fancy mixed drinks such as daiquiris and pina coladas. A wine spritzer or vodka with cranberry juice might be a good choice. If you are mixing the drinks your self, you can always use diet sodas and have a good old rum and (diet) coke or try mixing vodka with some of the new flavored no carb waters.
