How To Use Low Carb Bake Mix For Guilt Free Baking

We like to use Atkins brand bake mix as we have found that it has the least aftertaste of all the low carb flours we have tried. You could also use plain soy flour, but I’m not sure the substitution would be the same for that.

How It Works

Low carb bake mix is a flour like substance which you can substitute for regular flour in your baking. The Atkins bake mix is mostly soy protein and soy flour so it is high in protein and low in carbs. It tastes pretty good although is a bit more gritty than traditional flour and not as smooth with a tad bit of a “soy” aftertaste. I usually compensate for that by adding extra Splenda to give it a bit more sweetness.

The Atkins low carb bake mix is nutritionally better than traditional flour. It’s low in fat and carbohydrates and high in protein and fiber. Here’s the nutrition facts for 1/4 cup:

  • Calories 110
  • Fat 2g
  • Cholesterol 0g
  • Sodium 220g
  • Potassium 550g
  • Carbohydrate 6g (with a digestible carb count of 3g)
  • Protein 18g
  • Calcium 5%
  • Iron 15%

    How To Use It

You can use low carb bake mix in any recipe that calls for flour. Simply substitute 1 cup of the Atkins bake mix for every 1 ½ cup of flour that the recipe calls for, reduce oil by 25% and omit baking soda or powder. You may want to play around with the ingredients of your recipe to bring out the flavors and mask the aftertaste of the bake mix. Actually the aftertaste is very subtle and you won’t even notice it after a while!

    Where To Get It
