Over Weight Americans Top The Scales

The number of over weight Americans is on the rise indicating that fad diets and miracle weight loss cures do not work.

In fact, government statistics show that 61% of Americans are overweight and this number increases each year! And it’s no wonder with today’s fast paced lifestyle, folks just don’t have time to cook proper meals and exercise.

Weighing too much is not just an issue of how you look, it also can make you feel uncomfortable and contribute to health problems and disease. The more over weight you are, the more you are at risk for heart disease, diabetes, certain types of cancer, arthritis, and high blood pressure.

Make Healthy Eating A Priority
More often than not, preparing healthy meals is last on your to do list. But dining on fast foods can pack on the pounds and most fast foods are loaded with trans fats and other unhealthy components. Make it a priority to prepare meals that are filled with fresh vegetables and fruits along with low fat meats and some low carb breads or pasta. Instead of watching TV one night a week, spend it making some healthy foods for the week – or put a TV in your kitchen and cook while you watch your favorite shows! You could try making a batch of foods on the weekends that you could reheat during the week. You’ll probably save some money too!

Add A Little Exercise
Most over weight Americans don’t get much exercise, but adding a little to your day can be easy. I’m not talking about starting an all out 5 day a week aerobic program. Just add a little bit a day. For example, park a bit further from the building and add some walking or take a 10 or 15 minute walk once or twice a day. Try taking the stairs instead of the elevator. Even adding these little bits will help. Try to add a bit more each week as you get used to doing more and more. You might find that you eventually look forward to it!
