Look Thinner in Plus Size Formal Wear
Plus size formal wear doesn’t have to look big and bulky, in fact if you fit your gown or dress properly you can actually make your self look thinner!
The key is to emphasize your good points while deemphasizing the bad. In order to look good in what you are wearing, you need to know your body shape and be honest about what areas are your strong points and also what size is appropriate for your body shape.
Take a Good Look At Yourself
Be honest about your shape – are you top heavy or shaped like a pear? Do you have a big stomach you want to hide? Honest answers to these questions will help you pick out the formal wear that will make you look best.
When trying on plus size gowns, formal dresses or other special occasion wear, make sure you try a couple of sizes to be sure you get the best fit.
Wearing something that is a size too small will only emphasize the fat rolls where something that is a size too big might make you look even bigger. Take time to pick out the perfect size.
Accentuate The Positive
When selecting formal wear, you want to pick a gown or pants set that will draw the eye to your pluses and away from the minuses.
If you have wide hips try buying a top with shoulder pads to even things out. If your formal wear is a pants suit or top and skirt then try to buy one that has a darker bottom. A top that ends right at the mid point of the hips usually looks best with both large hips and a large stomach. Don’t buy a small size or anything too thigh as it looks awful from the back!
If you are top heavy, a formal gown that is all 1 color will help you look longer and deemphasize your top. Long jackets will draw the eye downwards and away from your plus size upper area.
Loose flowing semi formal gowns look best for those that have an overall round body.
If you have an hourglass figure wear fabrics that show off your figure by draping loosely. Avoid sizes that are too tight but try to go for a more tailored look. With this shape you have to be careful that the slimness in your waist does not make your hips look even larger than they are so I would avoid any formal gowns that have too tight a waist.
Accentuate The Pluses
Draw the eye of the observer to your face (it’s your best feature, right?) with colorful earrings and scarfs.
