Tips For Losing Weight – Motivation To Lose Weight When You Cant Lose Weight
If you’ve been dieting for any length of time, you’ve probably come across a variety of tips for losing weight. It stands to reason that different people have different views on the best way to lose weight because our bodies are all different and what works for one might not work for another.
The truth is that there isn’t just one thing that works which is why getting a bunch of different tips on losing weight can really help – especially if you can’t lose weight which happens to a lot of us for many different reasons. Just one simple weight loss tip can be the one thing that really starts those pounds dropping and that can give you more incentive and motivation to lose weight and get down to your goal.
Let’s face it, losing weight is a challenge and any little thing that can make it easier can be a godsend. Combine a bunch of things that make it easier and pretty soon you are slimming down without feeling like you are in dieting hell.
So….. Without further ado, here are my top 10 tips for losing weight:
1. Drink ice cold water frequently throughout the day. You’ve probably already heard that you should drink at least 8 glasses of water a day but did you know how it helps with weight loss? For one, it can help make you feel full but another thing is that many of us are dehydrated and when we want to nibble on something, it is simply our bodies telling us that we need water! Why ice cold water? The cold temperature of the water will make your body to more work to “warm it up” and, therefore, give you a little metabolism boost!
2. Don’t eat unless you are hungry. While this seems like one of the most obvious tips for losing weight, it is one of the most overlooked. The next time you pop a snack in your mouth, try to think about if you are really hungry or you are just eating out of habit or because of stress or some emotional reason. You’d be surprised how many times you eat when you are not hungry and this, in fact is a huge reason why many can’t lose weight.
3. Get in the weight loss mindset. The best way to lose weight is to think like a thin person. This means getting into a certain mindset – instead of feeling like you are depriving yourself get into the mindset of feeling good about eating healthy foods. You’d be surprised about how your motivation to lose weight goes up when you think about dieting and healthy eating in a positive light. Of course there is a lot more to getting into the “weight loss mindset” and if you think that could help you then you’ll want to sign up below for my free report and free newsletter (the report has like 9 pages on how to get into the proper dieting mindset – as well as how to stay there no matter what is going on in your life!) 4. A little activity goes a long way. One of the most common tips on losing weight is that you have to exercise but a lot of people think this means that they have to do hours of rigorous cardio. While that may help, even a little bit of exercise several times a day can do wonders. If you are not active during the day, your metabolism slows way, way down and you don’t burn hardly any calories. But if you make a habit to get up every hour or so and do something active (it only has to be for like 5 minutes so maybe some situps or a few push ups –even deep breathing helps!) your metabolism will stay elevated during the day and you will burn up more of what you eat!
5. Practice portion control. This is one of my best tips for losing weight. It’s one of the hardest to get your head wrapped around but if you practice good portion control you can eat anything you like and still lose weight. There you have it, all of the big books with tips on losing weight really boil down to portion control. Yes, of course, what you are eating plays a big role, but cutting down the sheer amount of food at each meal is one of the best ways to lose weight there is. In fact, I recently ran into a friend I had not seen in about 6 months and she was much slimmer – how did she do it? She ate all the same things she normally would but she ate only half of what she normally would eat!
But, what is a good portion to eat? It’s probably a LOT smaller than you think. Really, the typical plate of food you get at a restaurant is about 3 times what you need. Try cutting the amount you normally eat by 1/3 and see what happens!
6. Don’t beat yourself up. Look, we all fall off the wagon sometimes now matter how hard we are trying to lose weight and when this happens you can really get down on yourself. This can really put a damper on your motivation to lose weight so the best thing to do is to realize that there will be times that you screw up and to just simply pick back up where you left off. Don’t berate yourself and fall into a downward spiral of binge eating – just pick up your diet again the next day.
7. Beef it up. Weight loss is mostly about what you eat, but your metabolism plays a key role. For people who can’t lose weight, beefing up your metabolism is critical. You can do this by being more active during the day (see tip #4) and also by adding some weight lifting to your routine. I’m not saying you have to look like Mr. America, but muscle burns more calories than fat so building up some muscle will help you lose weight even while you sleep!
8. Don’t let your emotions control what you eat. Sometimes it’s so darn hard to diet. There’s all these things that get in the way – your stressful job, your crabby husband, the kids. One of the biggest tips on losing weight though is to not let these things affect what you eat because they come up day after day and if you eat for emotional reasons, you will never lose weight! You need to realize that your new healthy eating plan is something you are doing for you – your motivation to lose weight needs to overpower your emotional eating habits. The truth is that healthy eating will help you deal with all these things anyway because you will have more energy, be in a good mood and feel great about yourself!
9. Keep a journal. Is keeping a diet journal the best way to lose weight? Some people certainly think so. Keeping track of everything you eat, when you eat it and why can really give you insight into your eating habits and help you correct some of those bad ones which may actually be the reason why you can’t lose weight. Even if you don’t think you need a journal, try keeping one for a week – you might be surprised at what you find!
10. Have lowfat protein with every meal. Did you ever eat a meal and then get really hungry about an hour later? That’s because you didn’t have the right proportion of protein to carbs. Every meal should consist of about 1/3 protein – preferably a lowfat protein like fish, yogurt or cottage cheese. Try to eat a large amount of the protein first before anything else. Make the carbs portion of your plate mostly veggies and add in a little rice, pasta or bread if you want. Eating this way will ensure you stay full longer and don’t get those hard to ignore cravings!
